You just never know where you’ll bump into a recession dividend. Today I “bumped” into one with the ProSecure Unified Threat Management (UTM) 5 announcement. In the past couple of years, we’ve changed the ways that we work as a society. Small business is in; Fortune One is out. Mobility is king. So naturally our technology needs have changed. The UTM5 product meets these new worker bee needs by bringing enterprise-level protection down to the fiver market (small businesses around five employees). With this device small companies will be empowered to protect themselves with an array of defenses including firewall, SSL and IPSEC VPN, URL filtering, network antivirus, and antispam. Throw in a sexy form factor and you have the UTM5.
But the story gets better. This product is distributed via NETGEAR’s worldwide partner channel that includes many SMB Nation tribal members (NETGEAR has exhibited at past SMB Nation events). The pricing is sub-$300 without a one-year support contract (the price goes to $399 with the option of bundling one-year subscriptions for web security, email security, support and maintenance). The ProSecure UTM5 also leverage the technology of like-minded SMB Nation partners such as Sophos.
Wanna learn more? My new monthly SMB Nation radio show segment on John Iasiuolo’s Computer Outlook program (my segment is on the 4th Thursday of each month; 5:00pm Pacific at www.comptueroutlook.com) will interview a NETGEAR product manager on this and other solutions (on February 24th).
