This just in folks - New ServerAlive™ Feature Set Provides Integrated Virtual Server Failover and Bare Metal Restore
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – March 2, 2010 – Axcient Inc., the provider of the Axcient complete data protection and business continuity platform, purpose-built for Managed Service Providers (MSPs) and IT administrators to serve their small and medium-sized business (SMB) customers, today announced the release of ServerAlive™. With ServerAlive, Axcient is the first company to unify backup, business continuity and disaster recovery on a single platform built by the same team.
ServerAlive enables MSPs and IT administrators to launch a virtual instance of a customer’s failed server on the Axcient local appliance in a matter of minutes, drastically reducing the downtime associated with a physical or virtual server failure. ServerAlive can be activated remotely with a single click through a web browser, so MSPs and IT Administrators can ensure their customers’ servers and applications continue running even when they’re not at the customer’s location. Then, when new hardware arrives, the ServerAlive instance can be migrated back to new physical hardware or a new virtual environment quickly and with minimal effort. ServerAlive extends RapidRestore™, which provides local, agentless backup and restore of machines and applications including granular backup and restore of individual emails and mailboxes on Microsoft Exchange. Bundled into all service offerings is SmartCloudDR™ the automated, scheduled backup of a customer’s critical data to Axcient’s remote SAS 70 II data centers. All three feature sets are integrated and delivered as a monthly service on Axcient’s hybrid-cloud platform, which combines a local appliance with Axcient’s cloud infrastructure.
“Backup, business continuity and disaster recovery have traditionally been treated as separate technologies. As a result, building a comprehensive data protection solution has historically required working with three or more vendors and installing many different pieces of software. When you think about the complexity and expense associated with this, it is no wonder that so many businesses don’t even backup their data and that employees of SMB companies experience so much downtime hassle in an average year,” said Justin Moore, founder and CEO of Axcient. “With the release of ServerAlive, Axcient has erased both the capital and complexity barriers to delivering best practices for data protection and business continuity to the SMB market. We have delivered MSPs and IT administrators with a silver bullet platform to provide the world’s first complete data protection and business continuity service for their clients and it doesn’t require a dime of capital. A new era of data protection and information management is upon us with the widespread availability of virtualization and cloud-computing, and we’re excited to be a part of it.”
The ServerAlive business continuity set of features includes ServerAlive Recovery and ServerAlive BMR coupled with new chipsets to maximize the performance of a server restore to the Axcient appliance. New functionality allows system operators the ability to:
• Take complete disk images of Windows 2003 and 2008 servers for restoral on disparate hardware making a normally very complex procedure with expensive software, fast and easy
• Launch a virtualized instance of a server on the Axcient appliance if the original protected server goes down offering total business continuity for SMB customers while waiting for replacement physical hardware
• Provide Microsoft Exchange Brick-Level Restore down to a mailbox, single email, calendar or contact
• Offer laptop backup “on connection” when a laptop is not connected to the network for the scheduled backup allowing remote workers instant data protection
“Axcient has leveraged practical cloud computing and virtualization to offer a truly integrated solution for total data protection for small and medium businesses,” said Lauren Whitehouse, senior analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group. “For a young company to offer this level of integration and sophistication is extremely impressive.”
“In my 30 plus years in IT this is the cleanest rollout by a vendor I have ever seen and it went exactly as promised. In my opinion, I think ServerAlive is a total game changer,” said Ken Segal, President, 24/7 Network Solutions, Inc. “We’re covered from laptops to servers to bare metal restore. I know my SMB customers will love this solution.”
ServerAlive complements Axcient’s already robust and elegant solution for backup and disaster recovery including:
RapidRestore™ Data Backup Services
Axcient offers backup for laptops, servers and workstations and supports multiple operating systems including Windows, Apple OS X and Linux. The on-premise data appliance provides fast, network-speed restores and allow customers to hit critical recovery time objectives (RTOs). Important files can be continuously backed up as changes are made, increasing protection and reducing backup windows.
SmartCloudDR™ Disaster Recovery Services
In the event of a site failure, Axcient will ship a new data protection appliance, fully loaded with a company’s data and system information, to a new or temporary location within 24 hours. Data is stored in multiple offsite locations fitted with the latest security measures to further protect data.
ServerAlive Pricing and Availability
The ServerAlive option on the Axcient Appliance is now available in North America. Axcient provides three simple, bundled service plans across five different sized Appliances to its Managed Service Provider Partners depending on the customer’s needs.
