Evolution of Axcient and the Roll Out of Release 6.4

failover by 9x and replication rates by 3x. I had the chance to speak with Axcient’s Director of Product Management, Daniel Kuperman, about this latest release, and to catch up with what the company has been doing for the past couple of years.

Like many of you, Axcient has taken the past two years to evolve. To be more specific, Axcient worked towards the development of a cloud-based solution for business continuity. The Axcient Business Recovery Cloud enables users to run the entire business in the cloud (for those of you with multiple locations) or as a cloud backup in the event of a disaster. A perfect example of this being the 60 mph winds and ensuing power outages in Western Washington State this past week. In an event like this, a user would just have to connect to the closest internet source (café, etc.) and they can work uninterrupted.

Interestingly, Daniel told me that the Axcient Cloud was developed more for the Enterprise sector, but SMBs are also reaping the benefits of increased replication and transfer speeds, as well as increased security. For Enterprises and SMBs, the idea is that the tech staff can just push a button and forget it. I asked Daniel about the MSP sector, and he said this: “MSPs really do have a unique challenge, in that they have to manage a large number of networks, not just theirs.”

He went on to explain that Axcient has developed its cloud-based solutions to roll out much like the Apple phones. That is to say, the usage and UI will remain simple and familiar, but the power level will increase. In addition, the Axcient team was focused on developing its own technology, as opposed to OEMing parts for its solutions. Daniel also let me know that many of Axcient’s customers are now using the Business Recovery Cloud solution for migrations. Read on for the features.

The other key focus for Axcient lies in its customer service. Daniel let me know that there will always be a live person to answer the phone for its MSP, SMB and Enterprise customers. This is to help the businesses cut back on unnecessary time spent on the phone. In addition, all Axcient customers gain access to free product training, and the company is planning to roll out a revamped community site in 2015.

Here are some more updated features of the Axcient Business Recovery Cloud:

• Addition of Drag-and-Drop Recovery Feature, possible via an integration with Windows Explorer.
• Physical and Virtual image replications can now be exported as a VMDK file, for use to recover VMware snapshots and to ease migrations between physical and virtual machines, without complex conversion processes.

As mentioned above, this current release is in beta, and will be rolled out to all existing Axcient customers at no additional cost.
