Email messaging and web security solutions provider AppRiver, LLC, released its mid-year Global Security Report, an analysis of threats and malware trends tracked during the first half of 2014.
AppRiver screened more than 19 billion messages between January and June 2014. Nearly 18.9 billion of those messages were spam, and 636 million contained malware. Europe continues to be the leading point of origin for spam input, though the United States accounted for a larger portion than usual.
The report includes data surrounding both email- and web-based threats, major cybercrime breaches and exploits, “Pump and Dump” stock scam spam campaigns and the use of CryptoLocker copycat malware.
