This morning, EVault released the results of their second annual Cloud-Connected Backup and Recovery survey of IT leaders. The key finding of this survey was that half of organizations surveyed in the US, UK, France, Germany and the Netherlands are managing more data than ever, and most are looking to migrate to a hybrid solution to keep this data secure.
EVault utilized independent research company, Vanson Bourne to conduct the 2012 survey. Approximately 650 IT Decision makers from organizations sized between 100-3000 employees in the US, UK, France, Germany and the Netherlands were polled for 2012. Respondents were asked questions about their current data management policies and concerns. The survey showed that 60% of IT leaders polled who are not currently on a hybrid solution are considering or planning for one. Overall, 66% of respondents said that they plan to increase the amount of data stored in the cloud by 2015. The US led this trend, with 85% of those polled moving data to the cloud.
The survey also offered insight as to why organizations are moving to a hybrid solution. Protection against natural disasters (57%), improved data security (66%) and increased flexibility (74%) were the top reasons brought to light with the 2012 poll.
Despite the growing confidence in hybrid data management solutions, IT leaders are still under duress with many facets of data management, particularly in the areas of BYOD and data loss. EVault reported that year-over-year, an average of 22% (32% for the US) of employees are storing company data on their personal mobile devices. The latest EVault poll found that 94% of IT leaders are concerned about this trend. The main worries of this group include legal implications (57%) and retention or deletion of data from a mobile device (67%). Of those polled, only 28% replied that they have a BYOD BDR plan in place to protect against data loss.

In the area of data loss, IT leaders are still hesitant to inform company leadership of and major losses. EVault’s 2012 survey found that 24% of those polled said that they have not told their CEOs about any missing backup, particularly on mobile devices. In addition, 38% of IT leaders have concerns as to whether or not their data is being securely or properly backed up.
