Florida Polytechnic University , Flagship Solutions Group and IBM announced a new supercomputing center composed of IBM high performance systems, software and cloud-based storage, to help educate students at the only state-sponsored Florida university dedicated solely to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
“Florida Polytechnic University’s STEM-based mission is directly aligned with the business models of IBM and Flagship, and it has been very satisfying to work with the leadership at those two firms to make the Supercomputer happen on an expeditious timeline,” said Tom Hull, Vice President and CIO for Florida Polytechnic University. “After considering the mission of the University, I realized that an IBM Supercomputer Complex could satisfy our need for a High Performance Computing center and a Student Data Center for both our curriculum and applied research at a high level. The highly technical talent at Flagship and IBM has been instrumental in helping enhance the idea of a Supercomputer at Florida Polytechnic University. We have architected a complex that will enable the technical ambitions and programs of this new University.”
The center, designed to provide students with hands-on training using high performance computing systems, will support concentrations at Florida Polytechnic University such as Cybersecurity, Big Data & Analytics, and Cloud Virtualization. It will also be used by faculty and graduate students for research projects.
Upon opening later this month, Florida Polytechnic University will have two colleges, six undergraduate degree programs, two master’s programs, and 19 concentrations.
