Infonetics Research Finds: VoIP and UC Market on the Rise

Infonetics Research yesterday released key findings from their most recent VoIP and UC Services and Subscribers forecast report. This report, which tracks vendors such as AT&T, Comcast, NTT, Shaw Communications and Time Warner Cable, found that the overall VoIP services market saw a 9% increase from 2011 to 2012, which works out to a $63 billion market for both residential and business subscribers.

Additional key findings include:

  • SIP Trunks saw an 83% increase from 2011, particularly among multi-site businesses.
  • Managed IP PBX remained the largest segment for the business sector overall, which saw a 9% increase in 2012.
  • Hosted VoIP and UC saw a 17% growth overall between 2011 and 2012.
  • On the residential side, the three largest VoIP service providers were NTT, Comcast and France Télécom.

Diane Myers, Principal Analyst for VoIP, UC and IMS, Infonetics Research, offered this insight as to the report results: “The market for VoIP services has moved well beyond the early adopter stage to mainstream status in many developed countries. New geographic regions are opening up, and SIP trunking and hosted UC continue to heat things up, fueling growth. Vendors are increasingly pitching cloud telephony and unified communications services alongside SIP trunking as more multi-site businesses seek out hybrid solutions.”

As a result, the research firm expects the total VoIP services sector to hit $82.7 billion by 2017. For more research from Infonetics, please visit their site here.
