Yesterday, Microsoft released news that, overall, the increased awareness in security has caused the cost of business to increase for cybercriminals. In fact, the company reported that the number of severe vulnerabilities exploited in Microsoft products decreased by 70% between 2010 and 2013. This news came from the company’s Security Intelligence Report, volume 16.
Despite this, there were still attacks made via “deceptive tactics.” This deceptive tactic behavior actually saw a major increase as well in the latter half of 2013. There was also a trio of threats that worked in tandem, which caused problems for both enterprises and end users:
- Rotbrow: Most common overall.
- Brantall: Second most common overall.
- Sefnit: Seventh most common overall.
In addition, the most common tactic used to infect devices was the deceptive download.
