One Quarter Later – Do You Know Where Your XP Is?

dubai windows xp may 2014Time stands still for no one. It’s now over 90 days since the April 8, 2014 Windows XP end-of-support. So where are we now? Basically, the migration cadence has accelerated since the April 8th deadline. There was a surge in this past quarter as people finally took the matter seriously and motivated. SMB IT Pro partners and resellers have been embracing the opportunity, but their enthusiasm and excitement has been somewhat muted – to be brutally honest.

My anecdotal observations that Windows XP still thrives amongst us have been confirmed by my colleague Scott Bekker at Redmond Channel Partner Magazine. Whereas I can attest that a week doesn’t pass without me personally having an XP sighting, Bekker shared here findings from analytics obtained from two well-respected firms: StatCounter and Net Applications. Bekker’s findings are:

  • Windows XP is still in the number two position and will be a popular operation system for years.
  • StatCoutner puts XP global share at 16 percent, with Windows 8 coming on strong at 14 percent.
  • Windows 8 could edge Windows XP in the next few months. In the US, Windows 8 now surpasses Windows XP.

So there you have it – XP was here yesterday, is here today and will be here tomorrow. Stay tuned for ongoing updates.
