Oops…My Bad! 5 Blogs We Missed Last Week

Here we go again! As I do each week, I am really enjoying bringing our readers a quick round-up of the blog coverage I didn’t manage to get to during the week prior. This week’s installment comes to you a day late(r) than usual, and that is due to the Memorial Day holiday, which was celebrated yesterday in the U.S.

SMB Nation’s offices were closed in honor of this holiday, which salutes our veterans. I am always grateful for our Armed Forces, especially since it runs in my family—both my grandfather and my father served honorably in the U.S. Army—grandpa served during WWII, and dad was in Special Forces during the Vietnam War.

As you get back into the swing of things following the long holiday weekend, please take some time to peruse a few snippets of information that we didn’t get a chance to bring you last week….let us also know if there was something we might have missed, which is not mentioned in this entry…because as you know…we love news!

P.S.: Yours truly will be on vacation for the rest of this week, so in case you don’t see my active on the blog this week, no worries, as I will be back in the groove on Monday!

2.) Ovum Survey: Promising Growth for Mobile Apps in Emerging Markets: Despite the meteoric growth of the mobile applications market, over two-thirds of consumers do not download apps, finds Ovum. The independent global analyst firm suggests that, while this figure is substantial, the high and fast-growing penetration of smartphones means there is scope for further growth in application downloads.

A report based on Ovum’s latest Consumer Insights Survey reveals that users in emerging markets show the greatest enthusiasm for application downloads. In China 91 percent of respondents said they download applications, followed by India (84 percent) and Brazil (67 percent). Consumers in emerging markets are also more willing to pay higher premiums for application downloads. In India 21 percent of respondents said they spend over US$15 each month on application downloads, while 13 percent said they spend between US$8 and US$15 each month.

3.) TwinStrata Introduces On-Demand Disaster Recovery as a Service for VMware Users: TwinStrata last week announced CloudArray Disaster Recovery as a Service (CloudArray DRaaS), a new component of TwinStrata’s flagship CloudArray offering that enables seamless disaster recovery (DR) for VMware users on-demand without requiring continuous investment in secondary infrastructure or sites.
With the new CloudArray DRaaS, TwinStrata enables mid-market and small enterprise organizations to implement an enterprise-class disaster recovery strategy at less than a tenth the cost of either hosted offsite options or secondary site infrastructure. Organizations using CloudArray DRaaS can expect spin-up times of servers in two to four hours – and near-immediate restores under ideal conditions – for typical environments ranging in increments of 50 VMs or more.

For new customers with 50 virtual machines (VMs) or fewer, CloudArray DRaaS is now included in the pricing for TwinStrata’s CloudArray software. TwinStrata CloudArray is available as a monthly subscription beginning at $500 per month. Existing CloudArray customers and organizations with more than 50 virtual machines can obtain expanded support for an additional monthly fee.
