Sabre Corporation is hosting a hackathon to challenge developers to create revolutionary apps for the travel industry. The 24-hour hackathon, held on Aug. 1-2, is a non-stop event that allows developers to use Sabre’s APIs and other open technology providers to create a working travel application prototype.
"The travel industry is one of the largest and fastest growing segments of the world economy, generating nearly $7 trillion in annual spend last year, and the industry is expected to grow by four percent this year alone. The hackathon is a great opportunity for developers to learn and participate in this fast growing industry," said Greg Webb, president of Sabre Travel Network. "Coming on the heels of the Sabre Dev Studio launch, this hackathon is another step in our vision to help drive fast-paced innovation for travelers and travel companies."
There are four challenges for developers to choose from: “Social Swagger,” “Travel in a Non-Travel World,” Mine your own business,” and “The API Alchemist.” Each prototype, regardless of challenge, will be judged on technical quality, design, originality, and how well it addresses the challenge
Teams of up to five people can register at the Sabre Dev Studio site. The first prize winner will receive $15,000 in cash and credits for use of Sabre APIs.
