Earlier this week, Samsung announced the development of an eight GB, low-power double data rate 4 Mobile DRAM. According to Samsung, this is the first mobile DRAM device of its kind in the industry.
Key features of the Samsung 8GB LPDDR4 device include:
- Low Voltage Swing Terminated Logic I/O interface.
- 1GB per die.
- Utilizes 20 nanometer class technology.
- Consumes 1.1 volts, which is 40% less than the standard DRAM device.
Samsung explained that this new mobile DRAM offering was designed to power large screen UHD smartphones and tablets.
“This next-generation LPDDR4 DRAM will contribute significantly to faster growth of the global mobile DRAM market, which will soon comprise the largest share of the entire DRAM market,” said Young-Hyun Jun, executive vice president, memory sales & marketing, Samsung Electronics. “We will continue introducing the most advanced mobile DRAM one step ahead of the rest of the industry so that global OEMs can launch innovative mobile devices with exceptional user convenience in the timeliest manner.”
