Small Business Saturday 2013

SmallBusSat2013Where did the year go? It’s that time again, to stroll down Main Street, and spend money locally. A year ago, I reported on my commitment to spend at the local technology store. Today I’m ramping up to roam around downtown Bainbridge Island (known as Winslow) to spend a few dollars at a few small businesses. Whereas last year, I had a Small Business Saturday strategy, this time I’m going free-form and will let the fall winds guide me. I’m excited about the possibilities and hope you are as well. In fact, if you are local, please join me on a shopping spree!

The good news is that I’m preaching to the choir on this topic. SMB Nation folks are small businesses serving small businesses. It is how the game is played. Economically speaking, the biggest bang of the buck is to spend locally. It’s called the multiplier effect, and means your dollar circulates round-and-round in your community. That’s powerful stuff and necessary for a thriving local community. It means better schools, less crime and local ownership. It means community, which is what we’re all about.

Need further proof? Look closely at a contribution from Alaskan artist Tracy Anna Bader on the sensibility of making local purchases. And follow that with the a peek at my retail review where I profile the local Lynwood Community Market leveraging mobility technology to easily accept your dollars when you purchase goods and services.

Bottom line: Join me in celebrating Small Business Saturday. You can learn more here.
