Today, VoIPReview.org released a list of the three top reasons why VoIP customers shouldn’t be worried about the VoIP regulation/law changes in current discussion. In particular, there’s talk about how VoIP should be regulated, whether it should be defined as a telecom service, or regulated more like Internet services.
VoIPReview.org’s top three list is as follows:
- Any new regulation will protect smaller, independent VoIP providers, which will in turn prevent the formation of monopolies by larger existing telecoms. This means that VoIP users will be able to stay with their preferred provider and keep fair pricing policies for their service.
- New 911 regulations will allow VoIP customers to have the same response as analog customers. The proposed regulation will require VoIP users to register their IP with a specific address, so the 911 responders will be able to track location during the call.
- Regulations are planned that will allow for the fair and equal treatment of all customers, and will insist on legal consequences for any organization that demonstrates prejudice or hateful actions against any user.
