MSP Tech Talk Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2018 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM PST
Presented by: Ken Dwight , “The Virus Doctor™”
This presentation introduces the IT Support tech to a methodology for handling malware on client desktops, laptops, servers, and networks. It describes the four stages of dealing with malware:
• Detection
• Identification
• Neutralization
• Removal
This methodology is based on classifying the type of infection(s) and addressing them in a specific sequence. These are the four categories that will be defined:
• Encrypting ransomware
• Rogues and PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs)
• Traditional malware (Viruses, Worms, and Trojan Horses)
• Rootkits
By following the steps outlined in this presentation, the experienced IT Support tech will be able to find and remove all malware from an infected computer in the shortest possible time. This approach does not involve wiping and reloading the system or running multiple scans in the hope that some automated tool will find and remove all of the malware. Instead, it leads the tech directly to the source of the infection, where it can be removed quickly and permanently.
