IBM announced the upcoming release of a storage-as-a-service offering on IBM SoftLayer, code named Elastic Storage on Cloud, which provides organizations access to a storage environment that includes SoftLayer bare metal resources and allows movement of data between on-premise infrastructure and the cloud.
This storage-as-a-service offering is especially significant for organizations with high performance computing and analytics, including seismic data processing, credit risk management, and genomics. It gives organizations a way to meet sudden deficiencies in storage capacity without requiring purchase, installation, or management of in-house storage infrastructure.
Elastic Storage on Cloud also allows for quick deployment of applications and control of data center locality.
Elastic Storage on Cloud is available July 15. The program cost includes software licenses, SoftLayer Infrastructure, and full support.
